Garry Howard Sensei

Garry Howard Sensei began his study of martial arts in Japanese Kempo Karate at the age of 16. After several years he felt comfortable with his hand technique but weak in his kicking. At that time he began training in Tae Kwon Do to improve his kicking technique. Subsequently he transferred to Korean Hapkido for the self defense applications which the art is known for. This spanned the years from 1968 through 1975. Upon entering the United States Air Force in 1975, Howard Sensei began a period of training on his own and a deep study of the arts through research. While in Italy (from 1975 to 1977), there were no schools in which to continue his study. He feels this was a formative time in which he was forced to look inward in order to pursue his training. He continued this method until he met Shihan Steven Seagal in 1991. Howard Sensei began training with Seagal Sensei at this time. Preceding his study with Seagal Sensei, Howard Sensei trained with eminent martial artists including Professor Wally Jay, Joe Lewis, Seiyu Oyata, and George Dillman. Since 1991 Howard Sensei has also been privileged to train with Haruo Matsuoka Sensei.

Howard Sensei also trains police officers and military personnel.
